Emotional eating is defined as any reason you are eating other than hunger or to feed your body with essential nutrients. Some emotional eating is both healthy and what makes life a joyful and pleasurable experience such as eating for occasional nurturing or comfort, taste, and as part of important life celebrations. Excessive overeating, bingeing, restricting or yo-yo dieting is a sign that food is being used as a way to manage or control life issues - no matter what your size, shape or weight.

The Body Way Emotional Eating Program is a system that provides information and exercises to understand what the real issues are beneath emotional eating and provides concrete tools for learning new behaviors, thinking, and ways to experiences feelings so that life's real issues can be approached directly and eating can return to health.

The Body Way program begins with weekly written e-book lessons which guide you to create a uniquely personal food plan or Way of Eating™ that integrates 3 important areas:

  • Biochemistry
  • Emotional Issues
  • Lifestyle

This means, if you have a food allergy, food intolerance, are trying to reduce LDL cholesterol or increase HDL cholesterol, this will considered in the biochemistry section. Being sleep deprived postpartum can elevate cortisol levels so this and other factors which affect hormones would also be included in this area. Emotional issues acknowledge the real life challenges life presents which trigger emotional eating including a past history of trauma, abuse, neglect or significant loss. The lifestyle area can integrate anything from the difficulties involved in feeding a family with different eating needs than you have, travel or extensive social commitments for business. Budgets and readily available optimal food choices are also a part of the lifestyle area.

Once you have a designed a specific plan it will be clear when eating is off, other issues will be more readily apparent and new ways of approaching them without food can be learned. The program's lessons are divided up into four (10) e-lesson sets around self care, feelings, thinking & beliefs and relationships.

who can benefit from this program?

Emotional eating is any eating which prevents you from staying on a specific food plan required for physical wellness, spiritual reasons (such as vegetarian diets) or that is used as a subsitute for managing relationships and personal issues. This means if you are required to be on a specific diet for diabetes, heart disease, food allergies, etc... and are putting your safety at risk or are living in conflict with your values by what you are eating, you are more than likely emotionally eating.

This is not a weight loss program although often times weight loss plans can be sabotaged by emotional eating. The nutritional or fitness advice that are necessary components in achieving and maintaining weight loss are areas that may need be addressed separately. It is a program that can help identify what is getting in the way of sticking to goals around food choices and exercise and help get you from 'I know what to do' to actually doing it (consistently). Healing emotional eating can often be the key that unlocks the door to long term success in weight loss programming so it can be a recommended component.

getting started

Emotional Eating Coaching is held during in person or via telephone coaching sessions based on preference. Individual Sessions or Small Groups are both positive options. Some people perfer the privacy and personal attention of private sessions while small groups offer the additional learning & support of others sharing in a similar journey.

Emotional Eating Coaching requires 1-Hour Sesisons. Fees are based on regular coaching rates for in person or phone & email sessions with an additional fee for the Body Way™ Lessons.
