Pilates is a system of strength training based on developing a strong core (abdominals, back & glutes) and maintaining or restoring the natural alignment and articulation of the spine. Pilates is a holistic form of fitness, where each exercise considers proper breathing and alignment of the entire body and where no other area of the body is compensating while main training is focused on one specific area.

All Programs Start with a 1-Hour Design Session. This includes Goal Setting, a simple Postural Analysis, Identification of Modifications necessary before starting to work out and confidential review of your Medical History. If you are taking medications or have any physical limitations we will work in collaboration with your MD and PT to keep your safety as the first priority.

benefits of Pilates

  • Full Body Tone - including longer, leaner appearing muscles such as slender thighs & flat, defined abs.
  • Improved Posture: Restoring and preserving the natural curves and mobility of the spine.
  • Reduced Back Pain.
  • Increased Balance, Core Strength, Stability & Peripheral Mobility.
  • Injury Risk Reduction through strengthening and re-balancing the muscles around joints.
  • Enhanced Functional Fitness: Move with more ease when accomplishing everyday tasks.
  • Heightened Body Awareness & Concentration through strengthened mind/body connection.
  • Cross Training for Sports Performance: Greater core alignment & co-ordination benefits balance & agility.
  • Increased Blood Flow to the brain oxygenates the blood and improves circulation through breath work.

equipment & training: Mat vs. Reformer

The beauty of Pilates is that no special equipment is necessary to get started. Pilates Mat exercises require a padded mat and you! That said, the use of equipment and small props can target & isolate specific areas of the body to train them more effectively. Working on an unstable surface such as stability balls or the BOSU® will provide increased challenge to co-ordination and balance. The Professional Reformer is a piece of fitness equipment designed specifically for Pilates workouts and includes a moving carriage & springs (versus the weight bars found on traditional exercise machines) to increase resistance. The reformer is generally known for focused training of the periphery (arms & legs) while Pilates Mat workouts are known for focus on the core (abs, back & glutes). All Pilates repertoire workouts are designed to provide a full body workout.

‘The “little ball” gets to the abs like nothing else." ~ Anonymous

“The ‘mini ball’ helps me to get to my core muscles in a way that no other equipment did. It helps me better control the movements for leg work. I love my ‘mini ball'.” ~ MN
